The Database

This fully computerised catalogue at present registers about 100.000 works by over 6.000 artists. All entries are based on an examination of the originals, together with an analysis of relevant documents, catalogues, inventories and photographic archives. Post-1880 documentation, when the first modern art auctions began, includes market analyses. Works are
catalogued according to author, title, date, subject, technique andprovenance. References to their inclusion in exhibitions and other relevant literature are also included. Each work is indexed with a reference number, thus enabling the original record and filing date to be traced rapidly. On request, this document can be accompanied by an expert opinion on the authenticity of the work concerned.
